Mother's Day Celebrates 98 Years

On February 7, 1904, Fraternal Order of Eagles Past Grand Worthy President Frank E. Hering made a public plea for a new national holiday. Hering's hope was to have a day dedicated to honoring our mothers. A decade later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Mother's Day the second Sunday in May each year.  Mother's Day is a vital piece of F.O.E. history.

A Message From The Grand Worthy President
Wednesday, April 04, 2012

Brothers and Sisters,

It’s a great time for communicators! Spring is here, bringing warm and inviting temperatures encouraging outdoor events. If you’re one of the lucky ones avoiding rain this April, hold an Open House event at your Aerie/Auxiliary and show members of the community what the F.O.E. is all about. Our friends and neighbors won’t know just how much we do to assist those in need unless we’re ready and willing to tell them!

Hold a public barbecue or horseshoes tournament to draw potential members. Our Aeries are perfect for hosting gatherings and encouraging social interaction. When the weather changes, people are ready to break free from the house and enjoy the great outdoors. Give them the perfect outlet with the Eagles!

April is also a wonderful time for communicators within the organization. This month, the first of our full-color semi-annual Soar reports will reach every Eagles household. This beautiful piece will provide the latest information from all departments of the Grand Aerie in an effort to keep all of you as up-to-date as possible on Eagles happenings.

This month is also your last opportunity to purchase an ad for the 2012 International Convention program book. The program book is one of our most underrated communication avenues. Given to each member who attends the Convention, this full-color book is your best opportunity to share how proud your Aerie/Auxiliary is to each and every Eagle.

While selflessness and a giving spirit are cornerstones of the F.O.E., don’t be afraid to advertise your efforts. The more hands we have on deck, the more greatness we can achieve.

Fraternally,

Mel Fry

Grand Worthy President

A Message from the Grand Madam President
Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Brothers and Sisters,
I hope 2012 has been as wonderful for you as it has been for me. It was a pleasure to begin the year with the introduction of friendly new faces in Georgia, Alabama and Texas. With each stop on my tour around the jurisdiction, I am more and more proud to serve as your Grand Madam President.

With each passing month, I feel more and more privileged to meet so many wonderful brothers and sisters around the country. My tour across the United States and Canada has only proven my belief that we must continue to work together. When an Auxiliary or Aerie works together to help a family or a charity, great things often happen. When all of our Aeries and Auxiliaries come together for a cause, even greater things can be accomplished.

Communication is the key to bringing us together, which is why we’re proud to bring you Soar – The Official Bulletin of The Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie. Since Soar was unveiled to our members via direct mailing in late January, we’ve received tremendous positive response.

We hope that enthusiasm can carry over to our various efforts on a local, state and International level, including finding a cure for the nearly 30 million Americans and Canadians stricken with diabetes. With a continued joint effort from the Eagles, we can end their suffering.

Any task is possible when we all work in “Purr-fect Harmony!”

Fraternally,
Gwen Stallkamp

STRAIGHT FROM THE EAGLES NEST:
"Eagles Celebrate 114 Years"
"On Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 The Fraternal Order of Eagles celebrates 114 years of People Helping People. The F.O.E. began as an agreement between six Seattle theater owners during a musicians' strike. The owners agreed to set aside their differences and form The Order of Good Things. As membership grew, the Bald Eagle was adopted as the Order's official emblem, serving as a catalyst for the Order's name change to The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our first 114 years of excellence and we look forward to 114 more years of changing lives for the better."
